Jammu & Kashmir’s tourism sector made a significant impact at the India International Travel Mart held in Kolkata from March 28 to March 30, 2026. The event showcased the region’s breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage, drawing attention from travel enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. The Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department’s engaging presentations highlighted the region’s unique offerings, aiming to attract a diverse tourist demographic.

Showcasing Natural Beauty and Cultural Richness

The Jammu & Kashmir Tourism stall featured an array of stunning visuals, brochures, and interactive displays that emphasized the region’s natural beauty, from the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the serene Dal Lake. Visitors were treated to a taste of the local culture, with traditional music and dance performances enhancing the immersive experience. The tourism officials emphasized that the region is not just a winter destination but offers year-round attractions, including trekking, river rafting, and cultural festivals. “Jammu & Kashmir is a land of unparalleled beauty and rich history,” stated Ravi Kumar, Director of Jammu & Kashmir Tourism. “We are committed to showcasing our region’s diverse offerings to attract both domestic and international tourists.” This commitment is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the tourism sector, which has faced challenges in recent years.

    Strategic Partnerships to Boost Tourism

During the event, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism announced several strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing travel experiences. Collaborations with local travel agencies and hospitality providers were emphasized to streamline travel arrangements for visitors. The government is also focusing on developing infrastructure to support tourism growth, including better connectivity and improved facilities at popular tourist spots.

“Our goal is to create seamless travel experiences for tourists, ensuring they enjoy everything Jammu & Kashmir has to offer,” said Kumar. The partnerships include promotional packages that feature competitive pricing, with discounts of up to 20% on accommodations and travel services, making it more accessible for travelers.

This initiative is expected to bolster the local economy, which relies heavily on tourism. With the right support and investment, the sector could see a substantial increase in visitor numbers, which have been steadily rising over the past few years.

    Inspiring Confidence Through Responsible Tourism

As part of its commitment to responsible tourism, Jammu & Kashmir is focusing on sustainable practices that protect the environment and local communities. This approach was a key theme at the travel mart, with officials discussing initiatives aimed at preserving the region’s natural landscapes while promoting tourism. Responsible tourism not only aids in conservation but also enhances the visitor experience by providing authentic interactions with local culture.

“We believe in a tourism model that is sustainable and inclusive,” Kumar reiterated. “By empowering local communities, we ensure that tourism benefits everyone.” This strategy includes training programs for local guides and artisans, fostering a sense of pride in their heritage while providing tourists with enriching experiences.

Additionally, the tourism department is working on certifications for eco-friendly hotels and services, encouraging visitors to choose sustainable options during their stay.

A Bright Future for Jammu & Kashmir Tourism

Looking ahead, the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department is optimistic about the future. The ongoing efforts to enhance the region’s appeal have already led to a noticeable uptick in inquiries and bookings from potential travelers. The participation in the India International Travel Mart is just one of many initiatives designed to re-establish Jammu & Kashmir as a premier tourist destination.

“We are encouraged by the positive feedback and interest we have received during this event,” said Kumar. “Our goal is to ensure that Jammu & Kashmir is on every traveler’s bucket list.”

The tourism sector in Jammu & Kashmir is poised for revival as the government continues to invest in marketing strategies and infrastructure development. With its rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes, the region has the potential to attract millions of visitors each year, contributing significantly to the local economy.
