When it comes to new paddock-to-plate experience to highlight the region’s rich bounty, tickets are now available for the inaugural Goldfields Long Lunch, a new event set to enhance Tamworth’s Taste festival by spotlighting the region’s culinary treasures. Scheduled for April 11 at the Peel Inn Hotel in Nundle, this paddock-to-plate experience promises a delightful journey through the area’s flavors, featuring a specially curated three-course menu.

The event aims to unite local producers and promote the diverse bounty that the area has to offer, with an exciting selection of ingredients sourced from nearby farms. Attendees can expect to taste everything from locally raised trout, beef, and lamb to artisanal cheeses, olives, and honey. The menu will showcase freshly baked sourdough and flatbreads made in-house, alongside goat cheeses, yogurt, halloumi, and cheesecake from Sunhill Dairy Goats in Uralla. Other highlights include lamb shoulder and beef striploin from Crawneys Hills to Grills, traditional tomato sauce and honey from Oakenville Farm Store, and smoked turkey from Quast Turkeys and Nundle Smokehouse. Understanding New Paddock-to-plate Experience To Highlight The Region’s Rich Bounty

Oakenville Farm Store owner Rachel Webster expressed her enthusiasm for participating in this unique event, particularly in showcasing her homemade traditional tomato sauce. Made from organic tomatoes grown on her five-acre property near Nundle, Webster’s recipe has been passed down through generations and is a beloved family secret. “It’s a simple recipe but it does take a long time,” she noted, highlighting the dedication behind her product.

This year’s Taste festival will also see Webster conducting a sourdough workshop and a herbal remedies workshop, both of which are already sold out. The trout farm, a long-time participant in the festival, will be actively involved in the Goldfields Long Lunch, followed by their participation in Taste in the Park and offering Sunday lunch at their on-site café, The Drunken Trout Café. Additionally, they will provide farm tours throughout the week, with prior bookings necessary.

    Exclusive Dishes and Collaborations Await

Russell Sydenham, the owner of Arc-en-Ciel Trout Farm, praised Jodi Swain, the events and functions manager at Peel Inn, for her excellent work in organizing the long lunch. In collaboration with the hotel’s chef, Sydenham and his team have developed an exclusive dish to be featured during the event. Their longstanding relationship with the festival has allowed them to evolve their offerings and engage with the community in new ways.

For Crawneys Hills to Grills, this event marks their first experience with the Taste festival. Established in 2023 by Cameron and Danielle Douglas, the farm is eager to showcase their products at the Goldfields Long Lunch. “Tamworth and Nundle have got a lot of great producers,” Danielle said, appreciating the support from local venues like the Peel Inn. They will be supplying premium beef and lamb for the main course, all sourced from just 10 kilometers away, ensuring freshness and quality.

A Celebration of Community and Local Ingredients

Taking place on Saturday, April 11, from 11:30 AM, the Goldfields Long Lunch is priced at $80 per ticket, available through Eventbrite. This new culinary experience not only highlights the wealth of local produce but also fosters a sense of community among the region’s farmers and producers. The initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Taste festival, which aims to celebrate the flavors of the Tamworth region while encouraging sustainable practices and local sourcing.

Attendees can look forward to an afternoon filled with good food, great company, and a deeper appreciation for the local agricultural landscape. As the event draws closer, excitement is building among both producers and food lovers eager to sample the best that Tamworth has to offer. The Goldfields Long Lunch promises to be a memorable start to the festival, paving the way for a successful celebration of local cuisine that will resonate with residents and visitors alike.
