India Enhances Medical Tourism Framework for Growth – India Strengthening Ecosystem To Support Medical Tourism, Streamlining Coordination: JP Nadda – ETHealthworld.com – February 24, 2026

India is making strides to bolster its medical tourism sector by enhancing its ecosystem and improving coordination among stakeholders, according to JP Nadda, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at a recent event on February 24, 2026, Nadda emphasized the importance of a streamlined approach to attract international patients seeking quality healthcare services.

    Investment in Healthcare Infrastructure

In his address, JP Nadda outlined the government’s commitment to investing in healthcare infrastructure, highlighting a significant allocation of Rs 10,000 crore (approximately $1.2 billion) over the next three years. This funding aims to enhance facilities and services in both public and private sectors, making India a more attractive destination for medical tourism. Nadda noted, “We are working to ensure that our healthcare facilities are world-class and accessible to all, thereby positioning India as a global hub for medical tourism.” The initiative is expected to increase the number of international patients visiting India by at least 20% within the next five years. Moreover, the government plans to collaborate with various stakeholders, including hospitals, travel agencies, and local governments, to create a seamless experience for foreign patients. This includes offering package deals that cover medical procedures, accommodation, and travel arrangements, which are aimed at simplifying the process for those seeking healthcare abroad.

    Focus on Quality and Affordability

One of the key selling points for India’s medical tourism market is the affordability of healthcare services. Medical procedures in India can cost up to 80% less than in Western countries, making it an attractive option for patients from various parts of the globe. For instance, heart bypass surgeries that can cost around $100,000 in the United States are available in India for as little as $10,000. This price disparity is a significant factor driving the increase in medical tourism.

JP Nadda highlighted that the government is not just focusing on cost but also on the quality of care provided. The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) has been tasked with ensuring that healthcare facilities meet international standards. Nadda stated, “Quality is paramount. We are ensuring that our hospitals are equipped with the latest technology and staffed by highly qualified medical professionals.” The combination of affordability and quality is expected to place India as a preferred destination for a wide range of medical services, from cosmetic surgery to advanced cancer treatments.

Streamlining Visa Processes for Medical Tourists

Recognizing that visa regulations can be a barrier for medical tourists, the Indian government is also revising its visa policies. Nadda announced plans to introduce a medical visa that will simplify the application process for international patients. This new visa category will allow patients to stay longer in India, enabling them to receive follow-up care without the stress of visa renewals.

“We are committed to making it easier for patients to choose India for their medical needs,” Nadda remarked. The government aims to implement these changes by mid-2026, which is expected to further enhance the attractiveness of India as a medical tourism destination. The streamlined visa process is anticipated to increase the overall number of patients traveling to India for healthcare, thereby boosting the economy and creating more job opportunities in the healthcare sector.

    Collaborative Efforts with International Partners

To further strengthen its position in the medical tourism market, India is actively seeking partnerships with international healthcare providers and organizations. These collaborations are aimed at sharing best practices, expanding service offerings, and enhancing the overall patient experience. Nadda mentioned ongoing discussions with several countries to establish medical tourism alliances that would facilitate knowledge transfer and improve service delivery.

The potential for growth in this sector is significant, especially as global demand for medical services continues to rise. By positioning itself as a leader in medical tourism, India not only stands to gain economically but also to enhance its global reputation in healthcare.

So, India’s renewed focus on improving its medical tourism framework through substantial investments, quality care, streamlined processes, and international collaborations signals a promising future for this vital sector. As the government works diligently to implement these changes, the expectation is that India’s appeal as a premier medical tourism destination will continue to grow, attracting patients from around the world.
