On June 27, 2026, the India Today Tourism Survey and Awards ceremony celebrated the industry’s trailblazers in Udaipur, recognizing exceptional contributions to India's tourism sector. This year’s event highlighted various categories, including adventure tourism, heritage preservation, and sustainable travel, with several prominent figures and organizations receiving accolades.

    Recognizing Excellence in Tourism

The annual India Today Tourism Awards serve as a benchmark for excellence in the tourism sector. This year’s event featured a diverse array of nominees, showcasing the dynamism and resilience of India’s tourism industry, which has been significantly revitalized post-pandemic. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, the awards aimed to acknowledge those who are setting new standards. Originally reported by India Today.

Among the notable winners was the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC), awarded for its pioneering efforts in promoting sustainable tourism practices. “We’re committed to preserving our cultural heritage while ensuring that tourism contributes positively to local communities,” said RTDC’s Managing Director, Ravi Jain. This sentiment echoed across various award categories, emphasizing a collective responsibility toward environmental conservation.

    Trailblazers in Adventure Tourism

Adventure tourism has seen a remarkable surge in popularity, and the awards recognized several key players in this space. The Best Adventure Tour Operator award went to Wild Expeditions, known for its immersive experiences in the Himalayas. Their founder, Anjali Mehta, expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the importance of safety and sustainability in adventure tourism. “We strive to create unforgettable experiences while ensuring that the environment remains intact for future generations,” Mehta stated during her acceptance speech.

Additionally, the award for the Best Adventure Destination was presented to Manali, a town that has become synonymous with adventure sports like paragliding and river rafting. Local authorities have worked diligently to enhance infrastructure and promote safety measures, making it a preferred choice for thrill-seekers.

    Spotlight on Heritage Preservation

Heritage tourism remains a vital segment of India’s tourist appeal. The awards also honored institutions dedicated to the preservation of India’s rich history and culture. The Best Heritage Property award was presented to the City Palace in Udaipur, which has undergone extensive restoration while maintaining its historical essence. “Our goal is to ensure that visitors experience the grandeur of our heritage while respecting its authenticity,” noted the palace’s curator, Priya Singh.

Furthermore, a special recognition was awarded to the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for its tireless efforts in safeguarding heritage sites across the country. The organization plays a crucial role in raising awareness about the importance of protecting historical landmarks, ensuring that they remain accessible for future generations.

    Embracing Technology in Tourism

As technology increasingly shapes the way travelers explore new destinations, the awards also highlighted innovations that enhance tourist experiences. The Best Travel App award went to Explore India, a platform offering personalized itineraries and real-time updates for travelers. The founders of Explore India, Aditi Sharma and Rohan Mehta, shared their vision of leveraging technology to make travel more accessible. “Our app is designed to empower travelers with the information they need to make informed decisions,” they explained.

Moreover, the introduction of virtual reality experiences in major tourist attractions was acknowledged, signaling a shift toward more immersive and interactive tourism. Such innovations not only improve visitor engagement but also help in preserving physical artifacts by creating virtual replicas.

As the evening drew to a close, the sentiment was clear: the future of tourism in India is bright, driven by a combination of innovation, sustainability, and a deep respect for cultural heritage. The India Today Tourism Survey and Awards 2026 highlighted not only the achievements of today but also set a roadmap for the future of the industry. With ongoing efforts and a commitment to excellence, the tourism sector is poised to play a pivotal role in the country’s economic recovery and growth.
