In a significant move aimed at revitalizing India’s tourism sector, NITI Aayog has launched an anthology titled “Divya Bharat: A Window to the Soul of India.” The launch took place on April 18, 2026, and it seeks to highlight the cultural richness and diverse heritage of the nation while addressing the challenges faced by the tourism industry.

    Showcasing India’s Cultural Diversity

The anthology, “Divya Bharat,” is more than just a collection of writings; it serves as a testament to India’s vast cultural landscape. Featuring contributions from various authors, it encapsulates the essence of Indian heritage through various narratives, photographs, and illustrations. NITI Aayog officials expressed their belief that this initiative will raise awareness about India’s less-explored destinations, encouraging travelers to venture beyond the usual tourist hotspots. Originally reported by India Education Diary.

According to the latest data, India’s tourism sector contributes approximately 9.2% to the country’s GDP, employing around 42 million people. However, the pandemic severely impacted this sector, with a staggering 87% decline in international tourist arrivals in 2020. The anthology aims to reignite interest in domestic and international travel by showcasing the beauty and diversity of India.

    Government’s Commitment to Tourism Revival

During the launch event, NITI Aayog’s Chief Executive Officer, Amitabh Kant, emphasized the government’s dedication to revitalizing tourism. He stated, “Tourism is a crucial part of our economy, and we must harness its potential to drive growth and job creation. The 'Divya Bharat' Anthology is a step in the right direction, promoting our cultural heritage while inviting travelers to explore our rich landscapes.”

Furthermore, the anthology is part of a broader strategy that includes various initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, enhancing safety measures, and promoting sustainable tourism practices. The government has also announced plans to invest in developing tourist circuits that connect major attractions, ensuring a seamless travel experience for visitors.

    Emphasizing Sustainable Tourism Practices

One of the key themes of the “Divya Bharat” anthology is sustainable tourism. The authors have highlighted the necessity of preserving ecosystems and promoting responsible travel practices. With rising concerns about climate change and environmental degradation, the anthology encourages travelers to engage in eco-friendly practices while exploring the diverse landscapes of India.

Moreover, the initiative aligns with global trends where sustainable tourism is becoming a priority for travelers. The anthology discusses various successful models of eco-tourism in India, such as the community-based tourism in Kerala and wildlife tourism in Rajasthan, which showcase how local communities can benefit from preserving their natural resources.

Anticipating a Positive Impact on Local Economies

The “Divya Bharat” anthology is expected to have a ripple effect on local economies, especially in rural and semi-urban areas that rely heavily on tourism. By promoting lesser-known destinations, the anthology aims to divert tourist traffic from overcrowded cities to quieter locales, allowing local businesses to thrive.

Research indicates that when tourists visit off-beat locations, it not only enhances the travel experience but also contributes to the economic upliftment of those regions. From handicraft vendors to local eateries, the benefits of increased footfall are expected to foster a sense of community and cultural exchange.

As the anthology gains traction, stakeholders from various sectors, including hospitality, transportation, and local artisans, anticipate a boost in business. This revitalization can lead to sustainable growth in the tourism sector, creating jobs and preserving cultural heritage.

The launch of “Divya Bharat: A Window to the Soul of India” signals a renewed commitment by the Indian government to bolster the tourism ecosystem. By celebrating India’s rich cultural tapestry and promoting sustainable practices, this initiative not only aims to attract tourists but also to create lasting economic benefits for communities across the nation. As the country emerges from the shadows of the pandemic, the anthology may well serve as a beacon for travelers seeking authentic experiences in India.
