Sandals Resorts has announced a significant expansion of its investment in Jamaica’s tourism sector, earmarking $230 million for a host of new projects aimed at enhancing the island’s appeal as a premier travel destination. This ambitious initiative, revealed on May 25, 2026, includes the development of new luxury accommodations and Enhancements to existing resorts.

The announcement was made during a press conference in Montego Bay, where Sandals Resorts CEO, Adam Stewart, emphasized the company’s commitment to Jamaica. “Jamaica is our home, and we are dedicated to investing in its future,” Stewart stated. He highlighted that the investment would create thousands of jobs and further strengthen the local economy. Originally reported by safariindia.com.

New Developments Set to Transform Tourism Landscape

As part of its $230 million investment, Sandals Resorts plans to create two new resorts on the island, which will add over 700 rooms to its portfolio. The first project, Sandals Royal Caribbean, will undergo a multi-million-dollar renovation, while the second will be a brand-new luxury resort in Negril. These developments are expected to be completed by late 2027.

Additionally, Stewart announced that the resorts will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including swim-up suites, gourmet dining options, and exclusive beach access. This expansion aligns with Sandals’ goal to provide guests with an unparalleled vacation experience. The company is also investing in community projects that focus on sustainability and eco-tourism, aiming to protect Jamaica’s natural beauty while boosting its tourism sector.

    Job Creation and Economic Impact

The expansion is projected to create approximately 2,500 jobs in Jamaica, directly and indirectly. This includes positions in hospitality, construction, and various service industries. Stewart noted, “This investment is not just about building resorts; it’s about building futures for Jamaican families. We are committed to hiring locally and providing training to develop skills that will benefit the community long-term.”

Furthermore, the influx of tourists is anticipated to bring significant economic benefits to the region. According to reports, every new hotel room generates an estimated $100,000 in economic impact annually. With the new rooms expected to open by 2028, the added revenue could provide a substantial boost to local businesses and services.

Focus on Sustainability and Community Engagement

In line with global trends towards responsible tourism, Sandals Resorts is prioritizing sustainability in its development plans. The company aims to implement eco-friendly practices across its resorts, including the use of renewable energy sources and water conservation techniques. Stewart remarked, “We recognize our responsibility to protect Jamaica’s environment, and we are committed to sustainable tourism that benefits the planet and our guests.”

In addition to environmental stewardship, Sandals is committed to engaging with local communities. The company plans to collaborate with various organizations to support educational initiatives and local artisans. By investing in community projects, Sandals aims to foster a sense of pride and ownership among residents, ensuring that the benefits of tourism are shared.

    Challenges and Future Prospects

While the investment marks a significant milestone for Sandals Resorts and Jamaica, the tourism sector faces challenges ahead. Recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic remains a focus, as the industry works to rebuild traveler confidence. Both Stewart and other tourism leaders are optimistic about the future, stating that Jamaica’s unique offerings and resilience position it well for recovery.

As the tourism landscape evolves, Sandals Resorts’ strategic investment is poised to play a crucial role in shaping Jamaica’s growth as a leading travel destination. The combination of luxury accommodations, job creation, and a commitment to sustainability indicates a forward-thinking approach that could inspire other players in the industry.

Looking ahead, as the first phase of developments begins, many are eager to see how these new projects will transform not only the resorts but also the overall experience for visitors to Jamaica. With Sandals Resorts leading the way, the future appears bright for both the company and the island’s tourism sector.
