In a significant address on February 25, 2026, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan emphasized the growing importance of the India-US travel corridor and the need for sustainable tourism practices. Speaking at a tourism conference in New Delhi, Radhakrishnan highlighted the potential benefits of enhancing travel links between the two nations, noting that this initiative could boost economic growth and cultural exchange.

Radhakrishnan pointed out that the travel corridor aims to increase visitor numbers significantly. Current statistics indicate that nearly 1.5 million Indians travel to the United States annually, while around 1 million Americans visit India. The Vice President expressed his optimism that these figures could double in the coming years with the right policies and promotional strategies in place. Originally reported by Daily Pioneer.

    Enhancing Connectivity and Accessibility

Addressing delegates, Radhakrishnan outlined plans to enhance connectivity between major cities in both countries. He mentioned that improving direct flight routes would play a vital role in facilitating travel. Currently, many travelers face long layovers and complicated itineraries when flying between India and the U.S.

To tackle this issue, the Indian government is in discussions with several airlines to introduce non-stop flights from key Indian cities such as Mumbai and Delhi to major U.S. hubs like New York and Los Angeles. Radhakrishnan stated, “Increasing direct flights will not only make travel more convenient but also stimulate tourism-related businesses on both sides of the Pacific.” This initiative is expected to significantly reduce travel time, making it more appealing for tourists and business travelers alike.

    Commitment to Sustainable Tourism

Alongside discussions on travel accessibility, Radhakrishnan emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism. He noted that as travel increases, so does the responsibility to protect cultural heritage and the environment. “We must ensure that our tourism practices are sustainable and resilient, minimizing our ecological footprint while maximizing cultural exchange,” he stated.

The Vice President announced that India aims to promote eco-friendly travel options. This includes supporting local communities and businesses that prioritize sustainability. Various initiatives are being launched, such as eco-tours in national parks and heritage sites, aimed at educating travelers about conservation and promoting responsible tourism.

The government is also exploring partnerships with international organizations to develop training programs for tourism professionals. These programs would focus on sustainable practices, helping to create a tourism sector that benefits both visitors and local communities.

    Economic Implications and Future Prospects

Radhakrishnan underscored the economic implications of a robust travel corridor between India and the U.S. He highlighted that the tourism sector contributes significantly to the GDP of both nations. With the potential doubling of visitor numbers, the economic benefits could be substantial, creating jobs and fostering bilateral trade.

Moreover, the Vice President pointed to the estimated increase in revenue from tourism, which could reach $30 billion annually if the travel corridor meets its targets. This projection underscores the vital role that tourism plays in the broader economic landscape.

As travel restrictions ease and confidence in International Travel grows, the timing of this initiative couldn’t be better. Radhakrishnan expressed hope that the collaborative efforts would foster deeper cultural ties and understanding, enhancing the relationship between the two countries.

So, the establishment of a stronger India-US travel corridor represents a promising opportunity for both nations. With concerted efforts to improve connectivity and a commitment to sustainable tourism practices, the future looks bright for international travel between India and the U.S. This initiative not only aims to boost economic growth but also encourages responsible tourism, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the cultural richness and natural beauty that both countries have to offer.
